So far this season, Dominika Čonč has proven herself to be adept at unlocking opposition defences for Maurizio Ganz’s side. A midfielder who likes to join in with the attack, she's got on the scoresheet on a number of occasions since the campaign began. Particularly notable is the fact that she’s managed to score important goals against teams high up in the league standings.
Čonč started the season in great goalscoring form, finding the net against Roma on matchday one and then bagging a brace in the Derby against Inter at the Stadio Breda. She then scored again on matchday six, this time against another big side in Juventus. Away from the league, she’s also netted in the Coppa Italia. Inter were once again unable to stop her as she scored in the Rossonere’s 1-4 win on 11 December.
After a ‘dry spell’ lasting a month and a half, Dominika returned to being a decisive figure: her 88th-minute goal secured a narrow win for AC Milan away to Orobica on 25 January. With six goals this season, she is second in the Rossonere goalscoring charts behind Giacinti, who has found the net nine times. The Slovenian is the perfect example of a box-to-box midfielder, useful in defence and deadly in the attacking phase.
When – and if – the season resumes, Coach Maurizio Ganz will be looking for her to continue her rich vein of form as the team pursue a Champions League spot. The January transfer window saw AC Milan add firepower to their attack through the signing of Berglind Björg Thorvaldsdóttir, who netted five goals in five games prior to the enforced break. The Icelandic forward, captain Valentina Giacinti and Dominika will be hoping that they’ll continue to celebrate goals during the final part of the campaign.
