Juventus Women secured a significant result in their lunchtime clash against Sassuolo on Sunday, running out 4-0 winners. The margin grew throughout the second half, punishing the Neroverde more than their performance necessarily merited. Rita Guarino's Bianconere have had a flawless league campaign so far and have picked up 21 points from seven games, three more than Maurizio Ganz’s Rossonere, who sit in second. The goal that essentially separates the two teams is Cristiana Girelli’s penalty from the memorable match played at San Siro on 5 October.
The Rossonere’s current position in second means they are on track for a place in the Champions League, this season’s main goal for the squad. Their challengers? After a surprisingly good start, Sassuolo fell short against Juventus, with the Bianconere showing they currently deserve to be top of this season’s Women's Serie A table.
For AC Milan, they have earned six victories in seven games, suffering a single loss (against Juve, as previously mentioned). They have the third best attack in the league with 18 goals scored and the second best defence with only four goals conceded. The team have wide margins for growth, with some experienced players still to get involved: Julia Šimić and new signing Verónica Boquete. Two direct competitors for the top two places, Roma and Fiorentina, have experienced rocky starts in the league and sit a few points off where they would like to be.
The Giallorosse (AC Milan's next opponents at Vismara on Sunday 15 November at 14:30 CET) have collected twelve points from their first seven matches, and they will be looking to secure a vital result in Milan. The Viola, after a great start in the league with three wins in a row, have slowed down significantly, taking only one point from their last four fixtures; they dropped more points in their 2-2 draw against Roma on Saturday. AC Milan’s victory over Napoli reaffirmed the difficulties facing the newly promoted team, who, however, put up a fight on the pitch. In their desire to avoid relegation, they face a big battle against San Marino Academy and Pink Bari.
