There was another uphill battle for the Rossoneri Under 18s this weekend, taken by surprise by Torino in a 3-1 defeat at the Vismara on the eighth league matchday. The goal from Ferraris, which made him the team's fifth goal scorer, wasn't enough to provide AC Milan with any points or follow on from last Thursday's important victory against Parma (2-1 with a brace from N'Gbesso). It was an afternoon match that began with a minute's silence in memory of the young Daniel Guerini.
The table is still extremely tight and there is little to separate the teams, bearing in mind too that this age group is mostly about preparing as much of the lads for U19 football next season as possible. There will be lots more chances in the future - so far, we're only a quarter of the way through the season - but we could do with a quick U-turn; in spite of some decent performances, defeats have been ever-present.
As Alessandro Citi, captain of our U18s, emphasised: "I have great faith in this team. We are working well during the week even if the results that we were after haven't come yet. The coach and the training staff are doing their utmost to help us improve and achieve our prescribed objectives. The season is still far from over and I am convinced that we will be pleased in the end,"
The crowded calendar has its advantages, such as allowing for repeated and more frequent chances to make a comeback. The next match will be Thursday 1 April at home against league leaders Roma: perhaps the most difficult obstacle to face, and undoubtedly the most exciting opportunity for us to get our bearings. It will be difficult to dominate them, the Giallorossi have already won five matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding only two, but it could mark a turning point, both with regards to mindset, performance and faith in the side more generally.
