1 May, Roma. 30 May, Roma. The most important month in the short history of AC Milan Femminile will begin and conclude against the same opponent: they take on the Giallorosse both this weekend in the league and in the Female Coppa Italia 2020/21. Also, if Maurizio Ganz’s girls managed to pull off the comeback in the return leg of their semi-final against Inter, Juventus didn’t fare quite so well last Sunday at Vinovo, with a 3-2 victory that wasn’t enough for them to reach the final.
Before the much-awaited match at the end of the month, however, there is this weekend’s league match. A game between two sides with 14 points between them in the league. A lot of time has passed since that afternoon on 15 November and Valentina Giacinti’s penalty in the first leg at Vismara. If AC Milan have had a straightforward path in the league – apart from the match against Juventus – Roma have nevertheless improved their standing in the standings, climbing back up to fourth place after a disappointing start.
Saturday afternoon’s game has a direct impact on the Rossonere’s league standing: with a victory against the Giallorosse and should Sassuolo not win – they play on Saturday afternoon away at Verona, qualification for the Champions League would be guaranteed, with three games to go until the end of the Serie A 2020/21 season.
This month could start in the best of all possible ways for AC Milan, who remain favourites due to their eight-point lead over the Neroverdi with four games to go and one head-to-head between the two, scheduled for the middle of the month, away at Sassuolo. However, May will begin and end against Roma: two meetings with history, to crown an extraordinary season.
