Performing well in such an anomalous season is not something that should be taken for granted, given the logistical complications that have certainly not allowed the boys to grow and develop as well as they could. It is also for this reason that, after having played the first four games, the season so far for Coach Christian Lantignotti’s Under 17s receives a ten in the report card. Ten, the same number of points that they currently have in the table, thanks to Sunday’s 3-1 victory against Cremonese.
Leonardo Rossi was the star of the show in that game, netting himself a splendid hat-trick with one goal in the first half and two in the second half. The same Rossi who also scored the first goal for the Rossoneri in the 2-0 win – again versus Cremonese – on the day that the season restarted for the 2004 generation.
The performance of the team for the first four games has earned the Rossoneri first place in the group, despite the ongoing situation which has seen some fixtures postponed and still to be rescheduled (in AC Milan’s case, the match at Vismara against Cagliari will be played this afternoon). There are also a few days of hard work ahead, given that Lantignotti’s boys go into their second bye week in the coming weekend.
The season will resume on Sunday 30 May with the Derby against Inter in Group 2 being staged at Vismara. This fixture will be followed by two final engagements – an away trip to Cagliari and Monza at home – after which the group’s final standings will be known, as well as who will qualify to the Scudetto Final Eight. These are weeks to make the most of, therefore, in order to continue the development that had been interrupted by external factors.
