51 points in 22 matchdays, 16 wins, 47 goals scored and 17 conceded. These are the final - and very positive - stats for the Rossonere in the league season just gone. Second place in Serie A and a first-ever qualification to the Women's Champions League. It was a historic achievement and one reached with strength, work and sacrifice. In one word: merited. But the season is not over. Quite the contrary, there remains one final and decisive game, which bears the chance to lift a trophy.
Ganz's warriors are heading into Coppa Italia Final week. The game, which kicks off at 20:30 CEST at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia on Sunday, is open to the public up 20% of the ground's total capacity (equal to ca. 4,300 spectators). It's a great chance to make this year all that bit more special. Their opponents will be Roma, who they beat in the girone di andata in 2020/21 - as well as 3-2 and 3-0 in 2019/20, 4-1 and 2-1 in 2018/19 - and who were held to a draw by Napoli on the final matchday.
The Rossonere drew to Hellas Verona at Vismara by the same score, 2-2. Last Sunday, this team showed that they know how to fight and react to any difficulty. In terms of team selection, Maurizio Ganz left both Giancinti and Grimshaw on the bench, rested Korenčiová, Fusetti and Tucceri Cimini, and gave minutes to players that hadn't been involved so much, like Salvatori Rinaldi, Spinelli, Babb, Rizza, Mauri, Tamborini (in goal), Simic, Piazza and Coda.
The whole squad is on view for this crucial clash, as is right but not expected for a group with such collective spirit. Miriam Longo's return following a back problem is also worth mentioning. A sigh of relief for her and excellent news for the Diavolo, who welcomed back and are now, once again, in possession of an extra precious resource on the pitch.
