AC Milan Primavera's long season came to an end this week: a year that began in September and was suspended for months due to COVID-19 after only three matches played. It leaves many positive signs for the future, which will see the Under-19s also involved in the prestigious UEFA Youth League 2021/22.
This competition will see the Class of 2003 take centre stage, who have been deployed frequently during the season by Coach Giunti. A year that has undoubtedly resonated: if on the programme cover you see the 7 season goals from Youns El Hilali, the defence has long been among the best the league has seen, featuring key players born in 2003 such as Obaretin, Coubis and Kerkez. Also not to be forgotten are the attacking contributions of Roback and N'Gbesso, who have scored important goals throughout the season.
This year also marked the last youth league season for the class of 2001, who won the Under-16 Scudetto in 2017. From that team, the following have remained: the decisive Rossoneri's top scorer Olzer (10 goals); the Captain Brambilla, pivot of Coach Giunti's midfield; Tonin, limited this season no thanks to injuries but joined the first team in March with games against Manchester United and Fiorentina; and finally Frigerio, who scored on Wednesday against Genoa.
Also to be added to this group are Mionić, who joined the Rossoneri in Winter 2018, and Michelis, who proved to be one of this season’s best defenders. To bridge the gap between the two years is the class of 2002, with key figures such as Jungdal between the posts, the duo Stanga and Oddi in defence, the midfield trio of Robotti, Saco and Tolomello, and Capone upfront, who featured heavily in the final part of the season after a long absence due to injury. An important season, apart from the result, comes to an end. The overall feeling is that of growth and learning, and next year will start yet again with new challenges and great motivation.
