Christian Lantignotti's Under-17 Rossoneri team were defeated 4-3 by Genoa in the quarter-finals of the Final Eight Scudetto. In a season largely disrupted by COVID-19, which resulted in a change in the competition's format, AC Milan's Class of 2004 nevertheless managed to show its quality and continue growing.
After a comeback from a top-class opponent, this result leaves a bitter taste in the mouth but should not demoralise us. The current path of development is the right one, and in the next season there will be plenty of opportunities to redeem themselves. On the one hand, the switch to the Under-18 team; on the other hand, for the most promising prospects, the possibility of joining the Primavera group that will also take part in the next UEFA Youth League.
After the Genoa defeat, Coach Lantignotti gave a post-match interview: "There's a lot of regret, the match was open but we often scored a lot of goals and then they came back at us. This was the same in our previous games, it's also beautiful, but we conceded too much in the defensive phase. This mini-league has given us some good answers, the boys have played well and today they gave everything too. The result isn't easy to swallow, but I’ve been happy with the boys since the first day of last year".
"They have been two difficult years, in which we've had interrupted activity several times because of what happened across the world", concluded the Rossoneri coach, "but the boys have always been ready to start again with great desire and talent. There are players with top quality, and I hope they will be able to carry that on as much as possible, one day becoming AC Milan players".
