AC Milan Women played 30 competitive matches during the season just gone, one where they qualified for the Champions League and reached the Coppa Italia final. Only one player was involved in all 30, thus establishing herself as an ever-present in Coach Ganz’s line-up.
Laura Agard arrived at the Club last summer after a two-year spell at Fiorentina, who have fiercely competed with AC Milan for European qualification ever since the Rossonere’s first season in Serie A. Since her arrival at Vismara, Laura has been a key pillar in the Diavolo defence, and she played a crucial role during the historic campaign that recently came to an end.
In a season that saw Coach Ganz change the team’s tactical system – moving from a back four to a back three after the game against Juventus at San Siro – the French defender remained an absolute certainty at the back, also from a disciplinary point of view. Indeed, she picked up just one booking in 22 league fixtures (two yellow cards when Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana matches are also considered), which is an exceptional record for a centre-back whose presence in the face of opposition attacks is never lacking.
Laura also got to celebrate finding the net at the start of the season, when she scored a splendid free kick in the Rossonere’s 5-0 win away to San Marino. Looking ahead to next season, her experience and the certainty she provides could result in her being even more of a crucial factor in the team’s fortunes. Indeed, she’s one of the AC Milan players who have played in the Women's Champions League, a competition she was involved in with Lyon, Montpellier and Fiorentina. A base to build from is certainly there.
