Serie A is tighter and more competitive at the top - the standings say as much. Today, Ganz's AC Milan are third on 19 points after eight matches played - one place lower and two points fewer than at the same stage last season. The Rossonere changed a lot during the summer but the campaign is almost identical to last season with the same aim: compete for the Scudetto and aim for Champions League qualification.
It'll be difficult to wrestle the title away from Juve, who are, by now, multiple reigning champions and are top of the league with maximum points, just like they were a year ago. Nonetheless, Sassuolo must be caught and overtaken - the Neroverdi are currently two points ahead of AC Milan and are much improved from last season. Sassuolo are looking like the main challengers for European football and imposed an unexpected 2-0 defeat of the Rossonere at Vismara at the end of September.
There was also the draw at home to Roma, who are looking better and better and are just three points behind AC Milan. Attention must also be paid to Inter, one of the surprise packages of the season so far. Six wins, 17 goals scored and just four conceded is a good record for AC Milan, who are well used to 1-0 wins this season: Sampdoria, Napoli, Fiorentina and Empoli last time out were all beaten by this scoreline.
Captain Giacinti remains in fine form in front of goal; she has seven already. Various different goalscorers have left their marks, which is one of the strengths of this group: from Thomas to Stapelfeldt, over to Bergamaschi, Vero, Adami, Cortesi, Grimshaw and Thrige. This weekend, on Sunday 14 November at 12:30 CET, the Rossonere travel to take on newly-promoted Pomigliano in a test to be overcome before the return of Coppa Italia football.
