Martina Piemonte has been a Rossonera since 30 December 2021, the day of her official announcement. At the time, Ganz’s girls had lost to Inter (0-3) and Juventus (5-2) in their previous two league fixtures. Immediately ready to play, she started against Roma in the Supercup semi-finals, which ended in a 2-1 victory and qualification for the final. While she didn’t have many shots, she did a lot of the dirty work and, above all, didn’t hold back on her debut. It was the first step. Her impact was there for all to see, both physically and in terms of character, and the team placed their trust in her from the very first minute, constantly trying to pick her out and watching as she protected the ball at all times and fought for the cause non-stop.
On 8 January, Martina was once again named in the starting line-up as the Rossonere faced Juventus in the Supercup final. Her performance was very similar to the one she produced against the Giallorosse, getting stuck into the action and helping the team move up the pitch, particularly after Codina’s sending-off. After she’d been replaced by Longo, the Bianconere went on to win in the closing stages, but Piemonte and the Rossonere had displayed plenty of positive signs.
Step two: AC Milan recorded two consecutive victories in the league – a 6-0 win over Hellas Verona and a 4-0 success against Sampdoria – playing attractive, flowing football in the process. Through her physical work and layoffs, she was able to open up a lot of space for the attacking wide players (Thomas and Bergamaschi), who, in turn, used their pace and started to find the net. Martina was playing well, as were her teammates.
Step three: goals. In the team’s 4-0 victory over Sampdoria, Piemonte made it 3-0 at the end of the first half, thus scoring for the first time in the Women’s Serie A since she did so for Roma in March 2019. And then another one followed – again against Samp – but this time in the Coppa Italia. Keep it up, Martina!
