It’s an important age category, the final step before the Primavera. The U18s are young in age but among the oldest in the youth team setup. Right now, they’re in the thick of the season, both in the league and now in the Viareggio Cup. Coach Terni’s team won their last championship fixture against Sampdoria 1-0 thanks to a goal from Chiesurin.
So far, it’s been a season of ups and downs. All attentions are currently turned to the Viareggio Cup, where they’ve enjoyed a great start. Indeed, after beating American side Westchester United 6-2 and Parma 2-0, today’s 3-3 draw against Carrarese has seen them qualify for the round of 16 as group winners on goal difference.
As for the league, they sit in seventh on 29 points after 22 matchdays, seven points off the play-offs. It’s not exactly where they want to be, but, in such a hard-fought championship where every game is a story in itself and an opportunity to grow, they’re not too far behind either. With the second-best defensive record in the division, they’ve been excellent at the back (28 conceded). However, with just 27 goals to their name, there’s room for improvement in attack.
The objective is to enjoy a big finale to the season, and solid foundations are there: in twelve matches across the league and Viareggio Cup in 2022, the Rossoneri have lost just once (to Bologna) and, encouragingly, have performed consistently well. Their return to league action will see them face Sassuolo on the road, after which it’ll be time for the derby. A significant crossroads.
