The rearranged fixtures against Roma and Sassuolo and the games against Atalanta, Fiorentina, Torino and Genoa are the final set of games this season for Christian Terni’s Under-18 Rossoneri side. The Rossoneri’s 2004 cohort go into this run of games in a good vein of form, as was demonstrated by their 4-0 demolition of Hellas Verona. However, the gap has been closed.
In fact, 11 points now separate the Rossoneri from 6th place Parma (the last Scudetto Playoff position). Even though the Ducali have played two games more than the Rossoneri, any push to move up the rankings seems unlikely given the 12 points that separate them from Bologna in 5th and 8 points from Inter in 7th. Both the Rossoblù and Nerazzurri have played 24 games to date, as is the case with AC Milan.
The last six matches of the season will therefore be pivotal, especially from the point of view of the technical and individual growth of each young player. This is particularly significant given that this age group is the last before the step up to the Primavera. It has proved to be an age category in which many Under-18s have struggled to acclimatise to the difficulty, which this year could be split between the two leagues while next year, they will be the main point of reference for the Under-19s. A new season awaits, filled with new challenges.
It’s been a season full of valuable experiences that will soon be archived; the participation in the Viareggio Cup and the excellent defensive performances: the 28 goals conceded are actually the best numbers any team at this level has achieved to this day. Given the solid performances of the Under-17s, the future for this age group also looks to be very promising.
