The long break in April didn't dampen the Rossonere's form as they thrashed Pomigliano 6-2 at Vismara in their first game in three weeks. This was their largest home win of the season - they have a better record away after an 8-1 win at Lazio and 6-0 in Verona - but the three points didn't change the situation in the table.
Roma scored a late goal away at Fiorentina to win 3-2 and maintain their five-point lead over AC Milan with just two games left this season. One win is all the Giallorosse, who have Sampdoria and Lazio still to play, need to mathematically secure qualification for next season's Women's Champions League.
Despite the looming failure to qualify for Europe, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the future in the Rossonere household. Starting, for example, with their good form in the second half of the season following a poor run of form between September and December. Save for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus, AC Milan are unbeaten in 2022 (nine straight league games with six wins and three draws).
The Rossonere have, furthermore, beaten their personal best in defence with eleven clean sheets - with two games left to play. In attack, too, they have improved: the Rossonere have scored 26 goals in ten games, and 35 in 13 if you include the Coppa Italia. Important in this sense were the additions of Piemonte and Guagni in the market and the growth of Bergamaschi and Thomas in the second half of the season. The aim now is to finish the championship in the best possible way and thus start again in a 2022/23 campaign which promises to be even more competitive and intriguing.
