In terms of facts and figures, this is how this season has gone: 42 points from 18 games, 71 goals scored (the best attack by 24 goals) and 23 conceded. The U16s finished top of Group B (two points ahead of Atalanta and four in front of Inter) while also boasting a monopoly in the goalscoring charts: Sia came first with 24, Martinazzi finished third with 16, and Scotti and Bonomi ended up joint-fourth with nine apiece.
Led by Ignazio Abate, who is in his first season in the job, the U16s have been excellent, and now they’re on the hunt for glory in the post-season play-offs. They will soon begin, with the Rossoneri having directly qualified for the round of 16. From this point, every tie will be played over two legs, with the exception of the final.
The Diavolo will find out who they’ll be up against once the first play-off round is over. This will see the third- to sixth-place sides from each group take each other on with the aim of progressing. Then, a ranking will be drawn up and the play-off bracket confirmed. As part of this, the Rossoneri will be considered as the “fourth-best first-place team” given that Juventus (Group A, 44), Bologna (Group C, 48) and Lazio (Group D, 47) finished the regular season with better points tallies.
The foundations are in place and the team can dream big, with the hope being that they can go all the way. It’s been a season of growth for our U16s, who are now ready to enjoy themselves even more during the final stage of the campaign.
