There's no stopping the Under-18 side who defeated SPAL, away from home, 2-1 to clinch their league third win on the trot, on the back of home wins over Torino and Cagliari. The game with the side from Ferrara, who had gained three points from their two opening games of the season against Monza and Torino, was an important test for the Rossoneri to measure themselves, after their promising early season start, against the reigning champions.
Head Coach Terni's lads put the game to bed early on taking a 2-0 lead within the first thirteen minutes: Chierusin, who had already scored in the season's opening draw against Atalanta in Bergamo, broke the deadlock after eight minutes firing in a great strike from the edge of the box; five minutes later and Tavernaro headed home to double the lead. Serigne cut the lead after 26 minutes but it wasn't enough for the Emilian side as they failed to trouble the AC Milan goal.
The Under-18s' win away from home has given them top spot in Group B, ahead of the Verona versus Atalanta game, and is another confirmation of the potential within the 2005-born age group. Last year, they played in the Under-17 league where, at the end of a fantastic season, they unfortunately fell at the final hurdles losing to eventual winners of the competition, Bologna, in the semi-finals.
From that squad, there are several players who are now a regular part of the Primavera squad, like Longhi, Mangiameli, Bartesaghi, Zeroli, Paloschi and Eletu. The rest of the group is following on its development and growth at this new level with high hopes for the season ahead. Next Sunday, they return home to the PUMA House of Football to face Parma and try to continue their aim of reaching the play-offs.
