Involved once again. And, once again, Roma will be our opponents. For the third consecutive season, the women's Primavera will take part in the Final Four, from which the Scudetto winner will emerge. It was the first objective, but nothing has been won yet. The best part starts now, but Roma, the reigning champions, will certainly be a tough obstacle. The Rossonere want to overcome the mini hoodoo: they've faced the Giallorosse in the semis in the past two seasons, losing on both occasions.
AC Milan finished the regular season in fourth place after competing for second spot until the very end. While the home draw against Juventus in the middle of April proved crucial in finishing in the top four, the stalemate against Sassuolo on the final matchday prevented the Rossonere from moving above the Neroverdi, who had the better head-to-head record, and also allowed Inter to finish second. In 22 games, the Rossonere recorded 14 wins, picked up 45 points and scored 63 goals, 15 of which were netted by Longobardi (the team's top scorer).
AC Milan collected just one point in their two games against Roma: the reverse fixture finished 3-0 to the Giallorosse at the CPO Onesti in Rome, while the teams then played out a 2-2 draw at the PUMA House of Football. In order to get the better of their next opponents, the Rossonere will need to play with their heads and hearts and show real strength in the key moments. The Final Four semi-final showdowns are straight knockout ties, and, if the game is level after 90 minutes, the higher-placed team from the regular season will progress. In other words, AC Milan have to win.
All the remaining fixtures will be played at the Stadio Davide Astori (Viola Park, Bagno a Ripoli, Florence), where the Rossonere will take to the pitch at 11:30 CEST on Thursday 9 May. After Inter v Sassuolo, the final will take place at 16:30 CEST on Saturday 11 May. Best of luck to Coach Zago's girls following a season of change and growth. Let's go for it.
