WOMEN'S PRIMAVERA: FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP TO THE COPPA ITALIA

Coach Zago's Women's Primavera have kicked off their 2025/26 campaign with a narrow defeat away and three wins in a row. They reacted well to their setback in their debut against Roma (2-3). Wins over Genoa, Cesena and Arezzo earned them nine points to put them in second place, tied with Sassuolo, Roma and Arezzo. 

The league now pauses for a month to make way for the Women's Primavera Coppa Italia, which has been officially launched after last season's trial run. The Rossonere make their debut in Parma on Sunday, October 19. After that, the competition, structured in a format of three groups of four teams, will continue against Lazio (at home) and Inter (away) on November 2 and 9, respectively. The league, meanwhile, will resume on November 16 against Fiorentina.

At the end of the first phase, as stated by the Women's FIGC, "the teams in first place of each group, and the best second-place will qualify for the semifinals, which will be played in May as single-leg matches. Pairings will be determined by a draw." In this transition phase between the two competitions, we spoke to Coach Zago to hear about his team's start to the season.

"The Primavera team are showing promising signs of progress. We are finding a balance between an understanding of the game, intensity and character," said the Rossonere coach. "Through the games we face every Sunday, the team is learning to manage every moment of the game better and to make conscious decisions. The league is very competitive and the standard this season feels a lot higher than last, which is a good sign for the development of the game. In this competition, the main aim of our work remains to provide our players with all the tools possible to make the step-up to Serie A."
