SARDO'S FIRST GOAL SEES MILAN FUTURO BEAT OLTREPÒ

The Rossoneri break the deadlock late on and win 1-0, moving back into second place in the league

Serie D is back after the weekend break. Milan Futuro won in Broni, Pavia, beating Oltrepò 1-0. The decisive moment came from Jacopo Sardo’s first goal for the Rossoneri. Signed during the winter transfer window and immediately in the action, he has quickly become a regular presence in midfield and now also proved to be the match-winner, scoring in the 75th minute to settle the game. At the San Contardo Municipal Stadium, Oddo’s side once again showed their strong form, especially away from home. It was an important victory following the encouraging draw with league leaders Folgore Caratese, and another clean sheet after those against Breno and Caldiero Terme.

An important step forward, the result of hard work, strength and steady progress. The Rossoneri move up to 45 points, climbing the table back into second place, nine points behind the leaders. In the next league fixture, on Sunday 22 March at 14:30 CET, Milan Futuro will host Nuova Sondrio in Solbiate Arno. The visitors are currently in the relegation zone but are showing signs of improvement and already managed to win the reverse fixture. An opponent, and a match, that will require full attention.

MATCH REPORT
Oltrepò were the first to try to raise the tempo with a couple of chances in the opening 15 minutes, though neither found the target. Milan Futuro responded in the 17th minute when Magrassi, from a tight angle, rounded the goalkeeper and squared the ball across goal, but the defence managed to clear the danger. Mavrommatis, pulling the strings in midfield, also had a chance to push forward and shoot, trying twice around the half-hour mark but sending both efforts wide. Milan Futuro came close again in the 32nd minute from a corner, with Sardo’s header drifting just past the post.

After a rather quiet start to the second half, the Rossoneri wasted a big chance in the 60th minute: Branca slipped a pass through to Magrassi, but Leoni came out on top in the one-on-one and made the save. Three minutes later, Dalpiaz went on a run of his own and delivered a cross that once again tested the goalkeeper. Milan Futuro were enjoying a strong spell and made it count in the 75th minute. Sala drove forward through the middle and into the box, where Sardo finished with a classy outside-of-the-foot touch to put the Rossoneri ahead. The closing stages were managed comfortably, with the opponents offering little going forward. In stoppage time, Magrassi had another chance in front of Leoni but couldn’t find the finish.
