Following the hard-fought win against Hellas Verona, Coach Marco Giampaolo analysed the game during the press conference. Here's what he had to say.
THE PERFORMANCE
“The team played intelligently after gaining the numerical advantage. We were fully concentrated and did not take any unnecessary risks. There are many areas where we can improve. There is no such thing as a perfect squad in the middle of September.”
INDIVIDUALS
"Piątek is relaxed. I saw that he was feeling good, as I told you before the match. He just needs to remain calm. Biglia is a leader, a strong player, he knows how to handle himself on the pitch. I thought he could play due to his resilience in difficult matches. Suso is a great player – his dribbling, his first touch into the space. When you play against teams that close the space down you need players like him. Paquetá is a bit messy in that position but he has to work on it, I have to help him develop into a complete player. He needs to understand when to play it safe and when he can take risks. Çalhanoğlu is one of those players who can help against teams that sit deep. I will struggle to go without him."
THE OPPONENTS
"I preferred Verona in Lecce last Sunday; today they set up to stop us from playing. We were good at tiring them out. I told the boys that sooner or later we would find a way through."
THE IDENTITY OF THE TEAM
"I am working on improving that, it is a collective thought. We must learn to dominate matches and to dictate the tempo of matches. But there are many aspects which we need to improve, it will take time."
