It was a tough defeat to take after individual episodes which turned the game around. AC Milan were lively and aggressive but it wasn't enough in Turin. Mistakes in the second half proved fatal for Gennaro Gattuso's side as Juventus were able to come from behind to win 2-1. This difficult spell goes on for the Rossoneri with three defeats in the last four. However, Milan showed character away against the league leaders, capitalising from an organised first-half display through Piatek's goal. A key moment in the 38th minute could have changed the match when the ball struck Alex Sandro’s arm in the 38th minute but it wasn't a penalty for Fabbri after consultation with VAR. The result was harsh on a Milan side who will now have to bounce back ahead of the next key match at San Siro against Lazio.
Report
Gattuso set his team up in a 4-3-3 formation and it almost paid off right at the start when Piatek headed just wide from a Suso cross. The match was very tight early on with the Rossoneri attempting to take control of the game. In the 30th minute, Kessie failed to hit the target with a chance to open the scoring. However, it preceded the opening strike from Piatek. In the 39th minute, Bonucci made a mistake playing out from the back, Bakayoko won the ball and slipped it in for Piatek inside the area who left Szczesny with no chance. The Bianconeri almost responded in first-half stoppage time with a Mandzukic bicycle kick but Pepe Reina was equal to it. Like in the first half, Milan started the second half brightly and created the first chance of the half in the 51st minute. Calabria picked out Piatek at the edge of the box who forced a save from Szczesny. In the 56th minute, Borini found space inside the area but his shot was deflected behind by Rugani. A few minutes later, Musacchio collided with Dybala in the box. Fabbri awarded a penalty which the Argentine stepped up to convert. The Diavolo came back to life with a Calha free kick going just wide. In the 78th minute, Alex Sandro missed the target with a header from a corner. The Bianconeri's winner came in the 86th minute when Kean received the ball from Pjanic before firing home.
