AC Milan needed to respond, and it did. After the setback in Europe, the Rossoneri bounced back with a 2-1 win at Genoa on Serie A Matchday 11, building on their derby victory before the final international break of 2026. Alphadjo Cisse, the team’s leading scorer this season, and Christian Pulisic struck inside the opening 20 minutes to put AC Milan in control. That advantage was managed with authority and composure through an intense second half, but De Rossi’s side never gave up. Ellertsson pulled one back late to set up a tense finish.
The win lifts AC Milan to 24 points, five behind league leader Lazio in the standings, and continues its strong run in Serie A. The positives went well beyond the two goalscorers. Once again, as on several occasions in the opening months of 2026/27, Amorim’s players responded on the field, following a setback with a convincing win. It was further evidence that the team is on the right track. Work will resume at Milanello after a few days off, with a return to action against surprise package Frosinone at San Siro on Sunday, November 22nd, the first game in a busy run of fixtures to close out the year.

MATCH REPORT
Genoa had the first chance just 50 seconds into the game, as Osmajić’s low left-footed shot went narrowly wide of the far post to Maignan’s left. The Rossoneri responded with two chances for Ramos, who missed the target on both occasions (6’ and 11’). Their third opportunity brought the breakthrough in the 13th minute: AC Milan recovered possession in the Genoa half before Rabiot rolled it across for Cisse, who scored from a central position with a finish similar to his opener against Bologna. The Rossoneri continued to look sharp, and their second goal also came from winning the ball high upfield, with Ramos laying it off for Pulisic to make it 2-0 (19’). The hosts grew into the game in the final 15 minutes of the half. After Østigård blocked Moreira’s left-footed effort from the edge of the box, Maignan reacted sharply to deny Wiafe (40’) and hold Østigård’s header (44’).
Neither side made changes at halftime, and the second half began with plenty of intensity and some heated midfield exchanges. The opening 15 minutes offered little in the way of chances, apart from an inaccurate De Winter layoff from a free kick, before both coaches made their first substitutions. De Winter, solid against his former club, made an excellent intervention to stop Osmajić (69’), before Maignan produced an excellent reflex save to deny Vitinha (73’). Former AC Milan player El Shaarawy then saw his right-footed shot deflected behind by Gila (79’). The hosts threw everything forward and pulled one back through a fantastic Ellertsson strike from distance (88’). It made for a tense finish, but the score stayed the same through seven minutes of stoppage time, and the referee’s final whistle confirmed the Rossoneri victory.
