    ROSSONERI DEFEAT GENOA ON MD37

    Serie AMay 17th 2026

A difficult night, both to explain and to discuss. AC Milan failed to bounce back and instead fell down once again, losing 3-1 to Fiorentina at San Siro with goals from Pulgar, Castrovilli and Ribery. This was the Rossoneri’s third league defeat in a row after losses in the Derby and against Torino. Leão’s brilliant solo effort at the end was a mere consolation for Milan, who were reduced to ten men for the majority of the second half after a direct red for Musacchio. A tough evening that only serves to compound the troubles faced by Coach Giampaolo’s side, who have one more league match to play before the October international break, on Saturday 5 October away to Genoa at 20:45 CEST.

    MATCH REPORT
Proceedings went immediately wrong for the Rossoneri: Donnarumma saved Chiesa’s effort, pushing it out for a corner in the 11th minute, but just two minutes later it was the same Chiesa who won a penalty for the away side after being brought down by Bennacer. Pulgar stepped up to the spot and sent Gigio the wrong way, giving Fiorentina the lead. In the 24th minute, after a difficult spell, Milan found themselves on the break and Suso’s left-footed curler was just tipped over by Dragowski. Milan pushed again, this time through Leão as he drove into the area from the left but dragged his shot wide of the target. After the break Coach Giampaolo brought on Krunić to shake things up, the Bosnian making his Serie A debut for the Rossoneri. However, things only went downhill from there as Musacchio was shown a direct red in the 52nd minute and “I Viola” doubled their lead through Castrovilli in the 66th, the Fiorentina midfielder smashing home the rebound after Donnarumma’s save. The away side were then awarded another penalty in the 69th minute, but Donnarumma came up with a great save to deny Chiesa. This gave some hope to the Rossoneri, but any thoughts of a comeback were soon dispelled as Ribery netted an excellent third in the 78th minute. A consolation for Milan came two minutes later as Leão danced past three defenders to slot home, but the goal led to nothing more and the game ended 3-1.
