After two months exactly, AC Milan returned to winning ways at San Siro. On matchday ten, the Rossoneri beat SPAL thanks to a magnificent Suso free kick. It was a key win for the Diavolo after a difficult period. There were various positives to take from the evening at San Siro for Stefano Pioli, starting from Suso who came on to score the winning goal. That wasn’t all as Bennacer bossed the midfield, Hernández constantly got up and down the left flank while Paquetá had various shots on goal. Last but not least, the defence kept a clean sheet for the first time since the away game at Verona on matchday three. Milan can take the positives and go into a tough set of fixtures against Lazio, Juventus and Napoli with more confidence.
MATCH REPORT
Pioli stuck with the 4-3-3 formation with Duarte, Castillejo and Bennacer coming into the line-up following the match at Roma. Early on, the Rossoneri were in control but without creating many difficulties for the SPAL defence. The first real chance came in the 13th minute when Hernández crossed from the left to Piątek who found Castillejo at the far post who hit the bar from point-blank range. 30 minutes in, Kessie slipped it through to Çalhanoğlu but his shot was saved simply by Berisha. The match remained balanced and it took some magic to break the deadlock in the 63rd minute. It was Suso who stepped up soon after coming on with a free kick from just outside the box. The goal created more space for Pioli’s side who had a chance to extend the lead in the 79th minute when Çalhanoğlu found Paquetá but Berisha saved. SPAL went on the attack in the final minutes with Kurtić going close with a header but they couldn’t find the equaliser and Milan won at San Siro.
