38 league games, and several that need circling in red on our calendars: our analysis

Since yesterday, Thursday 4 July, we know what our fixture schedule will be during the 2024/25 Serie A ENI Live campaign. The calendar has been drawn up, and we’ll begin our campaign against Torino and finish it against Monza. In between, we’ll be involved in many big matches that will go a long way to determining how well we do. After the Granata and a trip to Parma, we’ll travel to the Olimpico to face Lazio, who, like ourselves, have a new man in the dugout, namely Marco Baroni. We’ve won our last three fixtures against the Biancocelesti (the last encounter saw Okafor bag the winner on the road) and, beyond that, five of our last six.

We’ll then meet the team from the capital again on matchday 27, when we’ll be aiming to record our fifth consecutive home victory over Lazio in Serie A. From Lazio to the derby, which will take place on matchday 5. Indeed, we’ll face the Nerazzurri shortly after the first international break of the season (Serie A will come to a halt on the weekend of 7-8 September). Meanwhile, the return fixture will be played at the start of February on matchday 23.

In the round of fixtures immediately before the second international break of the campaign (13 October), we’ll take on Fiorentina in our seventh league game. The first clash between the Rossoneri and the Viola will be at the Franchi, where we won in 2023/24 (2-1 with goals from Loftus-Cheek and Rafa). The return match will take place on matchday 31, when the season starts to near its end. Last season’s surprise package were Thiago Motta’s Bologna, who are now coached by Vincenzo Italiano: the Rossoblù came fifth and will thus play Champions League football this year.

On matchday 9, we’ll travel to the Dall’Ara, where we opened our 2023/24 Serie A campaign with a victory (2-0, Giroud and Pulisic on the scoresheet). From matchday 9 to matchday 36, and from the end of October to the middle of May, several months will pass before the two teams meet at San Siro. As was the case last season, AC Milan and Napoli will meet each other on matchday 10, although this time around the game will be played at San Siro. It will also be the Rossoneri’s only midweek fixture in the Italian top flight during the coming campaign. We’ll return to the Maradona, where we’re unbeaten in five outings, at the end of March (matchday 29).

Our 13th Serie A fixture of the season will be AC Milan v Juventus. For the third consecutive campaign, the reverse fixture will be played at San Siro and the return match will take place in Turin. In 2023/24, the Rossoneri were beaten by the Bianconeri on home soil, which saw their five-game unbeaten run against Juventus come to an end. In 2024/25, less than two months will separate the two games between the sides, with the second fixture set to take place on matchday 21. Atalanta and AC Milan will also meet on matchday 15 this season after having also done so last year (9 December 2023); the game is scheduled for the weekend of 7-8 December.

Gasperini’s side, who are the current Europa League holders, will, like the Rossoneri, play Champions League football this season, and the big showdown between the teams will take place just a few days before matchday 6 of the league phase in Europe’s elite competition. The return clash will be played on matchday 33, in the month of April. Finally, there’s Roma, who we beat twice in the league in 2023/24 (just like in 2021/22) but who eliminated us in the Europa League quarter-finals. We’ll face the Giallorossi in our final match of 2024 (matchday 18) and our penultimate fixture of the season (matchday 37).
