The penultimate matchday in Serie A 2024/25 sees AC Milan take on Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday 18 May (20:45 CEST kick-off). Both sides are chasing European football and go into it following a busy and rigorous few weeks. It's a game that will be poised on a knife edge between two sides that know each other well and faced off in the Coppa Italia at the start of April. Let's get ready for kick-off with our Match Preview.

    LATEST FROM MILANELLO
I rossoneri, reduci dalla sconfitta nella finale di Coppa Italia contro il Bologna, tornano a concentrarsi sul The Rossoneri are back in league action following the defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final. AC Milan are still in the race for European football and, although trailing as it stands, are still in with a shout, but every point matters. The objective is to rediscover a bit of solidity, calmness and compactness for these last two games of the season, which will require maximum concentration because it is still all to play for. The trip to the Olimpico will be a tough one, but it is a chance for a bit of redemption. There are a few fitness issues that need to be monitored, while Leão and Pulisic remain key components of the Diavolo's forward line. We might see some rotation, but the Rossoneri will likely stick with the 3-4-3 formation with Jović or Abraham through the middle.

    LATEST FROM ROMA
Roma's aim against AC Milan is to consolidate their position in the European places. At the time of writing, the Giallorossi are in sixth place on 63 points following a long unbeaten run that relaunched their European ambitions. Ranieri's chosen system is a dynamic 3-5-2, with a highly interchangeable and mobile front two. With Paulo Dybala out injured, the task of playmaking falls to Matías Soulé. The game against the Rossoneri is a big chance for Roma to confirm the progress seen until the defeat to Atalanta last time out as they chase Europe next season.

Ranieri on Roma v AC Milan and its importance in their hunt for Europe in his pre-match press conference: "It's really important; we want to do it. I think back to when I took charge, to the boys' sacrifice, hunger, determination, and to the fans. This is so important for everyone. We'll try to do the best we game. 500 games in Serie A? I'm happy."

    PRE-MATCH NUMBERS

    • Roma are the team against whom AC Milan have won the most matches in Serie A history: 80 victories for the Rossoneri in 179 encounters, with 54 draws and 45 wins for the Giallorossi.
    • AC Milan are unbeaten in their last ten league games against Roma (6W, 4D), with the Giallorossi's last Serie A victory dating back to 27 October 2019 (2-1 at the Olimpico)
    • Christian Pulisic (11 goals in Serie A 2024/25) is just one goal away from matching his best scoring season in the Top-5 European leagues (12 goals in 2023/24); including assists (nine in the current league), the American could become only the fourth AC Milan player to reach double figures for goal involvements in a single Serie A season in the last 20 years, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic (14G+11A in 2010/11), Ronaldinho (12G+14A in 2009/10), and Kaká (15G+11A in 2007/08).
