The first half began at an intense pace, with both teams trying to take control of the game but without creating many goalscoring opportunities in the opening minutes. Butez denied Leão in the 30th minute, but Como took the lead two minutes later thanks to a strike from Nico Paz that caught Maignan off guard. AC Milan tried to respond immediately but found it difficult to break through the opposition's defence. In the 34th minute, Tomori had a chance to equalise, but his effort was saved by Butez. The visitors came close to doubling their lead, with Maignan having to intervene on a shot from Sergi Roberto in the 39th minute.
Coach Allegri attempted to turn the match around with substitutions at the start of the second half, and in the 63rd minute Leão found the equaliser with a precise lob, capitalising on Jashari’s assist. The Rossoneri came close to taking the lead in the 70th minute, when Saelemaekers delivered a cross for Fofana, whose twisting header went over the bar. The match became more physical, with several bookings for both sides. There was a heated finale, with a red card for each bench (Allegri for the Rossoneri), and chances at both ends: Pulisic in the 84th minute, Douvikas in the 87th, and above all Rodríguez and Valle deep into stoppage time.
