It's crunch time: with six league matches remaining in the 2025/26 season, AC Milan's next challenge is an away trip to Verona, for what is often a tricky fixture. To approach it in the right spirit, let’s rewind to 15 September 2019 and revisit that previous meeting between the Scaligeri and the Rossoneri, decided by Krzysztof Piątek.

Hellas Verona v AC Milan, Serie A 2019/2020

It was the AC Milan side coached by Marco Giampaolo, who had begun the season with a defeat in Udine and a home win against Brescia. Then came the international break, and the transfer window closed with a notable late arrival: Ante Rebić. The Croatian made his debut in Verona, coming off the bench at the start of the second half. But plenty had already happened before that, including Stępiński's red card after 21 minutes. Down to ten men, Verona still threatened through Verre, while AC Milan struggled to find their rhythm. The Rossoneri came close early in the second half when Calabria hit the post with a volley, and from there they grew into the game, looking to make their numerical advantage count.

The pressure paid off midway through the second half when a shot from Çalhanoğlu was blocked by Günter's outstretched arm: penalty. From the spot, Piątek beat Silvestri with a precise right-footed strike. AC Milan appeared to have the match under control, but the closing moments at the Bentegodi were anything but calm. Deep into stoppage time, Calabria conceded a foul on the edge of the box and was sent off. Miguel Veloso’s free-kick was blocked by the wall, and moments later an effort from Darko Lazović skimmed past the post. The Rossoneri held on – just.
