Rossoneri and bianconeri, AC Milan and Juventus. A clash that always enthrals calcio fans, a match about much more than just the teams' positions in the league. April's final fixture will be no exception, and as we head into Matchday 34, we take a look back in our Time Machine at AC Milan's last win over Juventus at San Siro: 8 October 2022.

It was Saturday 8 October 2022, Matchday 9 of Serie A. Pioli's AC Milan faced Allegri's Juventus, coming off the back of a strong start to the league campaign but also a difficult night in the Champions League away to Chelsea. With the imminent World Cup in Qatar forcing the season to move at a relentless pace, and the return European clash with the Blues just around the corner, Pioli opted to reshuffle his side: Gabbia partnered Tomori in central defence, while Pobega and Díaz operated in attacking midfield alongside Leão in the usual 4-2-3-1 system – choices that would ultimately prove decisive.

After a lively start from the visitors, AC Milan grew steadily into the match, first coming close with two efforts from Leão that struck the woodwork in the 20th and 34th minute, before finally taking the lead deep into first-half stoppage time thanks to a sharp finish from Tomori that lit up San Siro. More than 75,000 fans were on their feet again less than ten minutes into the second half, when Díaz produced a brilliant solo moment. Intercepting a loose pass in midfield, the Rossoneri's no. 10 surged towards goal, skipping past Bonucci before beating Szczęsny. The scoreline remained unchanged in the closing stages, though Juventus tried to get back into the game through Milik and Kean, and AC Milan nearly added a third with Divock Origi. At full time, the celebrations belonged entirely to the Rossoneri: a long-awaited victory over Juventus at San Siro, achieved in front of a full home crowd for the first time in six years.
