WOMEN, SASSUOLO v AC MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW

The Rossonere's 2022 closes with a classic of recent years

The last port of call in 2022, for the women's AC Milan team, is the Stadio Enzo Ricci in Sassuolo. A ground that evokes sweet memories, since it was where the Rossonere gained their first ever qualification in the Women's Champions League. In the present, on the other hand, we look towards the third matchday in the return of a championship where the aim is to cement their position among the top five and win important points ahead of the second phase. We present the last fixture of the calendar year with our Match Preview.

LATEST FROM PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
The defeat against Roma in the last round has left the Rossonere in fifth place, far from first and second place: the clash between the Giallorosse and Juventus, however, offers Ganz's team the chance to recover part of the deficit in the standings. In the match that precedes a long break (they will resume with the Coppa Italia on Sunday 8 January, AC Milan visit Lazio), the objective is therefore to win in order to close at best a calendar year that has given both joys and disappointments, and enter 2023 in the best possible way.

These are the Rossonere called up for the match: Babb, Fedele, Giuliani; Árnadóttir, Carage, Fusetti, Guagni, Mesjasz, Soffia, Thrige; Adami, Aprile, K. Dubcová, Grimshaw, Mascarello, Vigilucci; Asllani, Bergamaschi, M. Dubcová, Piemonte, Thomas.

LATEST FROM SASSUOLO
Accustomed in recent seasons to years in the upper echelons of the league table, Sassuolo have had a disappointing first 11 matches - compared to their previous seasons - with a total of 10 points so far (two wins, four draws and five defeats). The recent mood, however, is undoubtedly positive: the Neroverdi are in fact coming off a five-match unbeaten streak, with the last defeat dating back to 16 October. The last match resulted in a draw - away at Parma- which saw the team line up with the following 5-3-2: Lauria; Philtjens, Filangeri, Orsi, Pleidrup, Mella; Pondini, Brignoli, Jane; Clelland, Monterubbiano.

PRE-MATCH
The next match will be the ninth meeting in Serie A between Sassuolo and AC Milan, a challenge that has often been very balanced: in Lombardy the balance speaks of four wins for the Rossonere (including the first match) and one for the Neroverdi, in Emilia all three matches played have ended in a draw (with a goalless draw in the last two seasons). There are several relevant statistical themes worth mentioning on the eve of the match: two of the three teams with the best goalscoring percentage in this championship (AC Milan first with 16.2%, Sassuolo third with 12.9%), as well as the team that has scored the most from corners (AC Milan with six goals) and the team that has conceded the most in this manner (five goals conceded by Sassuolo). Finally, only Juventus have had more goalscorers than AC Milan (11) and Sassuolo (9) in this championship.
