WOMEN, ROMA v AC MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW

The most difficult fixture, but also the most motivating to try to get back to winning ways. AC Milan women will be back to start the second half of the season against a Roma side that is currently top of the table having only collected wins in the first 9 games. The squads’ forms are completely contrasting, but in the first fixture, the Rossonere were able to threaten the Giallorosse with pride and determination. 90 minutes to play in a game where motivation and details will make the difference. After his debut in the derby, Davide Corti finished up his first two weeks in the dugout for the Rossonere who have had to work around the players on international duty (and who featured heavily, like Bergamaschi and Giuliani for Italy in the Nations League). No AC Milan players are suspended or cautioned for the match, so they can count on having a full squad, aside from a still-recovering Jonušaitė. “There will be space for those who have played less so far in the upcoming games”, said the Head Coach in an interview with Milan TV. It’s possible, then, that we will see some new faces feature in the starting XI with respect to the formation selected for the last round against Inter.

Corti spoke on the eve of the match: "Roma’s current campaign will see them playing in international contexts, something that will help grow their level and experience. We need to hold our heads high, knowing that if we play united as a compact squad, we will manage to play our game, finding the right indications that we can play a good second half of the season. I hope we can give ourselves a good Christmas present, finishing 2023 with a different result from the recent trend to establish different objectives”.

The current Italian champions have had a perfect run so far in the league, as well as in the Champions League where Spugna’s side top the standings alongside Bayern Munchen in the group that also includes Ajax and PSG. In the last game before the international break, Roma beat Fiorentina 2-1. AC Milan is the only side that has managed to put 2 past the Giallorosse this league season. No players are suspended or cautioned in a group that has seen, in the last two weeks alone, 15 players involved in international football. Spugna could very well front a 4-3-3 like usual, a tactical set-up that regularly features the Linari-Minami duo in the centre of defence, Giugliano-Kumagai-Greggi in the midfield with the attack spearheaded by Valentina Giacinti.
