The AC Milan Primavera side have won the Mamma Cairo Trophy. The side coached by Federico Giunti beat Juventus in the final thanks to a magnificent comeback as the team kept fighting for every ball. 15 days before the start of the season, the daily work in training during the week is starting to deliver results and impressive performances.
Like the derby win last Friday night, it wasn’t an easy match. Winning the competition which is now in its seventh edition should boost morale for the team with the side already looking united despite the arrival of new faces. Danish goalkeeper Andreas Jungdal joined this summer and he was recognised as the best goalkeeper at the tournament.

The Rossoneri got off to a tough start, going behind after three minutes to Abou’s goal after a free kick. It didn’t take long to respond with Tonin almost getting on the end of a cross from the right wing in the 11th minute. It was a balanced first half but in the second, Giunti’s side came out with more spirit. In the 55th minute, Marco Bosisio equalised with a side-foot finish. Milan continued to look dangerous but Luan Capanni failed to control the ball in the area and wasted a chance to go ahead.
In the 71st minute, Rossoneri goalkeeper Andreas Jungdal made a vital save, turning a powerful Juventus strike behind for a corner. In the 80th minute, Luca Stranga came up with some great individual player. After winning the ball back, he ran the length of the pitch and teed it up for Andrea Capone who hit it hard but down the middle and it was saved. The winning goal came in the 89th minute with the new signing Emanuele Pecorino going through and he made no mistake in front of goal.
POST-MATCH REACTION
Federico Giunti: “Beating Juventus is something to be proud of and it gives us more self-belief. The guys have shown that they know how to play as a team because everyone fights and moves for the same goal. Our real focus is on the league and we’re called on to go back up as soon as possible, we need to go to every pitch looking to win. Even if I don’t talk about the individuals, I want to underline the performances from the guys born in 2002. Tahar has just arrived and is still having problems with the language. Stanga had an incredible game. Bosisio scored and Capone came on at the end. They all did what was asked of them, we can certainly count on them.”
Emanuele Pecorino: “I’m very happy to wear this very important shirt. I wanted to thank the Coach, the staff and my teammates who immediately made me feel like one of them. It’s positive to be part of such a group, we help one another and we’re good friends. I scored an important goal and it allowed us to win this prestigious tournament. Now, the aim is to win the league and go straight back up to Primavera 1. We need to improve individually and as a team, we’re at a good point.”
