And we're back. After an elongated international break, AC Milan is back in action, with a tough run of games every three days. The first match is away to Sassuolo at the MAPEI Stadium in Reggio Emilia on Serie A matchday 6. Ahead of the fixture, Rúben Amorim gave his pre-match press conference at 2:00 pm CEST, available on our YouTube Channel, the AC Milan official App and Milan TV.
RETURNING FROM THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK
"The extended break doesn't change much. Whether it's a positive or negative thing depends on the team's condition. It gives injured players time to recover, while those who go away with their national teams play a lot and need to manage their workload. The fact that so many of our players are called up for their national teams shows that we have important players. They did very well, but I could tell they were happy to be back here, which means we've created a great environment. We had time to work with the players who stayed behind, and we also played a friendly and tried some new things. I believe we're ready. Now we need to put our foot on the accelerator because some very important games for our season are coming up."
THE NEXT OPPONENT
"I remember Aquilani as an intelligent player, and I believe having played in midfield helps when it comes to becoming a coach. He's a very modern coach. You can see that he's traveled a lot as a player, and it's clear what he wants his team to do. I'm certain he'll have a bright future in football. Matić is a great person and an intelligent player who's extremely difficult to take the ball away from. He brings a lot of experience to Sassuolo and is a very important player for them. I want to win first and then give him a hug after the match."
THE TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS
"As a coach, my job is to get the best out of the team and win as many games as possible. Ramos did very well with Portugal, and I hope he can keep scoring for us, too. We need to help him by creating more chances for all our forwards. Moreira played on both the right and left with Belgium. We all know his qualities. He can still improve in the attacking phase, but he can be effective on either flank. Camarda will play more from now on. He's learning a lot, he's ready, and I have high expectations for him. Cisse can also play in a central position, as he did with the U21 team. The players who stayed at Milanello will be very important in the coming games. We've worked closely with Hutchinson and Diawara, and Tomori has tried some of the things Gila usually does. Pulisic is a different case because he's coming back from an injury. He started the last match, and it was important to have him here with us so we could manage his workload."
THE LEVEL OF THE LEAGUE
"Serie A is changing this year. Fewer fouls are being called, medical staff are coming onto the field less often, there are more goals, and fewer teams are sitting deep to protect their goal. I was surprised by the quality of the matches, the players, and the coaches. I'm honored and very happy to be here, and I want to do my part to help Italian football and, above all, AC Milan. We want to win, and we want to do it right away because we're a top club, and that's only natural. We're taking the necessary steps to reach that goal."
DEFENSE AND ATTACK
"We've defended with both a back three and a back four. Looking at our recent matches, I've seen more movement, which has helped us build from the back. So it was necessary to change things up and play differently, although I don't know whether we'll continue this way in the future. When it comes to attack, I could answer every question by pointing out that we still score two goals per game. But I can't hide behind the goals. We need to create more chances and spend more time in the opposition's penalty area. We'll work on it and improve significantly in that regard."
