After coming together for the major event officially unveiling the new stadium, AC Milan and Inter are preparing to become rivals once again in the first derby of the 2026/27 season. San Siro will host another chapter in this historic rivalry on Serie A Matchday 10, with kickoff scheduled for 8:45 PM CET. It's time for our Match Preview.
LATEST FROM MILANELLO
It has been an incredibly busy period for the Rossoneri, both on and off the field. The build-up to the derby also brought the announcement of Christian Pulisic's contract extension. Another significant boost comes from the returns of Gila, Moreira and Rabiot, who are all available again. AC Milan is determined to bounce back from its first league defeat of the season, a 4-2 home loss to Bologna despite taking the lead through a Cisse brace. It was a difficult second half, but the derby offers the perfect opportunity to respond, regain momentum and push back toward the top of the standings as the UEFA Europa League also returns soon. Tomori is unavailable, while no players are suspended or one booking away from a ban.
"The derby is special," said Coach Amorim in his pre-match press conference. "We know how important it is, and we have a responsibility to win. I've seen a team that's fully focused, paying close attention to our technical and tactical work and aware of what needs to be done on the field. We need to develop the maturity to control games and manage their different phases. Building a better team takes time."
LATEST FROM INTER
The Nerazzurri sit joint top of the standings alongside Lazio after a near-perfect start to their league campaign. They have recorded eight wins and just one draw, which came after a comeback in Rome. Serie A's highest-scoring team will be without captain Martínez, as well as Pavard and Spence. Inter comes into the derby on the back of a 2-0 away victory over Venezia, although it took until the closing stages to break the deadlock. Its Champions League campaign has been more challenging than expected, with two opening defeats followed by a 1-0 win over Shakthar Donetsk. Chivu is expected to stick with his usual 3-5-2 formation, with Thuram one of the main threats to watch.
Cristian Chivu: "The team is ready and understands that this is an important Derby for us, for them, for the city and for the fans. What matters is going out onto the field and being the best version of ourselves. AC Milan has technical quality, intensity and pace. We need to be prepared to stay composed and organized."
