Gigio Donnarumma enjoyed a special birthday yesterday, one which he celebrated on the pitch as AC Milan qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League. He took centre stage too, producing one of his typically fantastic performances. Simply put, he was decisive. At San Siro, Donnarumma was unable to prevent Crvena zvezda from drawing level, but he did ensure that the match remained locked at 1-1, a scoreline which was ultimately enough for the Rossoneri. His huge 68th-minute save to deny Gobeljić was truly spectacular.
As a result of this stop, and for other reasons too, our fans selected the Italian goalkeeper as the Diavolo’s best performer in AC Milan v Crvena Zvezda. The 22-year-old picked up 45% of the vote share and thus finished ahead of Tomori, Kessie and Saelemaekers. During his 94 minutes on the pitch, our number 99 made saves, was a rock-solid presence at the back and also played eight successful long balls forward. Well done, Gigio!
