MVP FOR JANUARY: MIKE MAIGNAN

Second monthly award for the Rossoneri captain

Once is enough for some, not for Mike Maignan. After the recognition he received in November, the Rossoneri captain has now won the MVP award for January, a month marked by several matches in which the French goalkeeper took centre stage. He has contributed towards the positive results obtained by Allegri's side, who are remain in second place in the standings and remain unbeaten in the league since August.

Maignan was nominated for the monthly award, voted by our fans on acmilan.com, thanks to his Man of the Match performance at the end of Roma v AC Milan. He was decisive particularly with a stunning save against Roma’s Zeki Çelik. A lightning-fast reflex that adds to the long list of extraordinary stops made by our number 16 throughout this season.

But it would be unfair to focus only on his night at the Olimpico when talking about Mike’s outstanding January. Beyond the clean sheets against Cagliari and Lecce, and his late save on Kean against Fiorentina, who could forget the Como game, another crucial clash for a European spot, when, with key saves on Paz and Da Cunha at Milan’s toughest moment (with the home side in the lead), Maignan helped set the stage for the comeback finished by Nkunku and Rabiot.

Adrien also deserves a mention as one of the other three nominees for the monthly award, thanks to his brace at Como and a series of consistently strong performances. Kudos as well to Luka Modrić, Man of the Match in Cagliari and a rock in our midfield, and to Niclas Füllkrug, who has made an immediate impact as the newest arrival, scoring his first AC Milan goal in the crucial win over Lecce.
