A positive start indeed. The Under-15s (like the Under 16's) didn't falter in the first leg of the Round of 16, which determines the Scudetto winner. At the beginning of the decisive phase, AC Milan prevailed in Turin with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Avogadro and Menon in the first half-hour. We're only halfway through the job, but a strong and clear message has already been sent.
Approach, attitude, gameplay, goals. The class of 2009 Rossoneri created opportunities, scored, and even missed a penalty kick seconds into the game, hitting the post as well. "We did our job," commented coach Bertuzzo, "a good performance against a strong opponent. It's the first time the boys have faced a two-legged tie, tension can arise, but so far they've managed it optimally."
Currently, the period is golden. It started some time ago: "In the final part of the regular season, the team performed excellently, growing exponentially both in terms of performances and results. The victory in the derby was crucial." Heading into the final stage of the season in great condition is certainly a key to unleashing the quality at disposal, as demonstrated by finishing top of Group B (61 points, 20 victories, 62 goals).
The foundations to defend and even add to the advantage are strong. The return leg is scheduled for Sunday 19 May at PUMA House of Football. Bertruzzo explained, "We won't take anything for granted. We'll play it as if it were a final". Should the tie finish level on aggregate, the team with the better league placement would qualify (AC Milan, in this case). The opponent for the quarter-finals would be either Fiorentina or Hellas Verona, with the former leading 2-0 after the first leg.
