CREMONESE v AC MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW

The lowdown on the lunchtime fixture that opens AC Milan's March

Matchday 27 in Serie A will see Cremonese v AC Milan take place on Sunday at 12:30 CET. It's a lunchtime fixture of real importance for Nicola's and Allegri's sides, both determined to turn their recent results around. Here is our Match Preview to introduce the clash:

LATEST FROM MILANELLO
AC Milan head into this fixture after a mixed run of results. In their last Serie A outing, the Rossoneri suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Parma, a result that brought a lengthy unbeaten streak to an end. In February, however, the side also showed character, as demonstrated by their 3-0 win over Bologna and 2-1 victory away to Pisa. On their travels, the Rossoneri remain unbeaten, with three wins from their last four. Allegri's men are looking to pick up points to strengthen their position in the race for next season's Champions League and travel to the Zini determined to "avenge" the defeat suffered in the reverse fixture. While the injury list - Gimenez, Gabbia, Loftus-Cheek - is limited, disciplinary concerns take centre stage with next Sunday's derby approaching: Athekame, Fofana, Rabiot and Saelemaekers are all one booking away from suspension.

"We’re coming into this in pretty good shape, the season is decided at this stage. From now until the end of May, the race toward the Serie A title and the Champions League spots begins", said Massimiliano Allegri in his press conference. "A setback is normal after six months without a loss. We've trained well since Wednesday: we need to get back up on our feet. It will be a difficult game, Cremonese have the quality to stay in the Serie A and have got some important results. We need to take it one game at a time".

LATEST FROM CREMONESE
For the Grigiorossi, this is undoubtedly the most difficult spell of a season that had begun with great promise and a strong run of results. Their last victory dates back to 7 December (a 2-0 win over Lecce), and they've picked up just three points in 2026, courtesy of home draws against Cagliari, Hellas Verona and Genoa. The clash with AC Milan will be followed by a series of crucial six-pointers in the battle for survival, so thoughts may also be turning to the games ahead. In any case, Nicola has almost his entire squad available to him: only the injured Collocolo, Baschirotto and Floriani Mussolini, with no one suspended (Vardy, Bondo and Terracciano are one booking away from a ban).

"Spirit and desire are fundamental, I've said that since the first day; we need even more strength and balance", said Davide Nicola on the eve of the match. "We need to find the style of playing without overthinking, we're trying to be more free in our performances. We're going to play against a good side, but we're at home: we know that we'll need to take the game to the opposition. We'll need great calmness and determination in every phase of play".

PRE-MATCH STATS

  • AC Milan have failed to score in each of their last three away games against Cremonese in Serie A (D2, L1). The last Rossoneri players to find the net against the Grigiorossi at the Zini in the competition were Jean-Pierre Papin and Marco Simone in a 2-0 win on 26 September 1993.
  • AC Milan are the team that have scored the most goals in the middle third of matches in Serie A this season: 19 goals between the 31st and 60th minute (nine in the final 15 minutes of the first half and ten in the opening 15 minutes of the second half).
  • The match at the Zini features the two oldest players to score in Serie A this season: Luka Modrić (two goals - born in September 1985) and Jamie Vardy (five goals - born in January 1987).
  • Only Lautaro Martínez (eight) has scored more away goals than Christian Pulisic (six, level with Santiago Castro) in the Italian top flight this season. The US international has never done better on the road in a single Serie A campaign (also six in 2024/25), while across Europe's top five leagues he's only managed more away goals once (seven with Chelsea in 2019/20).
