The stage is set, the excitement is rising. The 2026/27 Serie A season gets underway, and on Matchday 1, AC Milan will make their debut away against Torino on Sunday 23 August at 20:45 CEST. It will be Rúben Amorim's first official match in charge of the Rossoneri, while former Rossonero Ignazio Abate will take charge of the Granata for the first time. Getting off to a good start at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino will be crucial: let's take a look at our Match Preview.
LATEST FROM MILANELLO
AC Milan’s first set of friendlies under Amorim took place in Scotland, Australia, Indonesia and Poland, bringing mixed results, with the highlight coming on Ferragosto (15 August) as they beat Manchester United 4-2. The team has continued to use the same 3-4-2-1 formation throughout the summer fixtures. The Portuguese coach confirmed in his press conference that Leão will be unavailable. On the other hand, the match could be an opportunity to see new arrivals Ramos, Gila and Diawara make their first official appearances in Rossoneri colours.
Amorim's comments on the eve of Torino v AC Milan: “It will be a difficult match, but we'll do everything we can to be ready. The important thing is to be a true AC Milan team, where everyone works hard for the group and not for themselves. We want to build a mentality: we win in Turin and then think about the next one.”
LATEST FROM TORINO
Abate will also be taking charge of his new side for the first time in an official match, and fate has immediately pitted him against his former club. Torino have lost just one of their six friendlies this summer, against Cittadella, while recording wins over opponents such as Burnley (1-0) and Pinzolo Valrendena (13-0). Their only absentee is goalkeeper Israel, but Abate has already confirmed in his press conference that 19-year-old Mascardi will start between the sticks. He is unlikely to be the only new signing to feature, with Comuzzo, Fitz-Jim, and Cacciamani, who has returned from his loan spell at Juve Stabia, also expected to take the field.
Abate's comments in his press conference: “We're facing a strong AC Milan side with big ambitions, and they have strengthened considerably. I’m sure the team will put in a great performance tomorrow. There is a lot of enthusiasm and energy: we need to have the ambition and drive to make our fans proud of us.”
