Seven days after the derby, Olivier Giroud was back in amongst the goals in Serie A as he scored the winning penalty as the Rossoneri beat Sampdoria at Marassi to claim their first away win of the season. He helped to secure three massive points after AC Milan spent almost the entire second half a man down. The French striker's goal earned him the MVP award from the game.
The fans chose Oli ahead of the three other top performers from the game in Maignan, Calabria and Messias. The Frenchman won 59% of the votes on the poll on the AC Milan Official App. Giroud scored away from home for the first time since his Scudetto-winning brace in Reggio Emilia on 22 May and has now won his first MVP award of the season.
Giroud sent Audero the wrong way and scored a perfect penalty, his third converted spot-kick for the Rossoneri (the last was in AC Milan v Roma on 6 January). The goal was certainly the highlight of his performance against Samp but was by no means the only thing that he did.
In fact, Oli's link-up play was astounding as he created many goalscoring chances - especially in the first half - and adapted with ease to the tactical switches made by Stefano Pioli throughout the game, owing to going a man down. He also contested 7 aerial duels, winning four of them. Bravo Oli!
