Just superb! Mike Maignan, the derby hero. Of course, AC Milan’s victory arrived thanks to Pulisic’s goal, but at least half of it was down to the Frenchman’s penalty save to thwart Çalhanoğlu. The Rossoneri were leading, the match was at a delicate and decisive moment, and Inter had a golden chance to equalise in the 74th minute. However, our goalkeeper was magnificent: he watched his opponent, went the right way, and kept the ball out.
It was a complete landslide in the AC Milan Official App vote for the MVP from Inter 0-1 AC Milan: Maignan received over 90% of the vote share from the Rossoneri fans, who were thrilled with his performance. Behind the Frenchman, of course, came Pulisic, followed by Gabbia and Rabiot, virtually level with each other. An extraordinary display from a shot-stopper in outstanding form.
Maignan didn’t just produce that penalty stop on a brilliant night at San Siro. In the second half, he preserved our lead and helped secure a valuable win, but he had already made an outstanding contribution in the opening 45, keeping out a Thuram header and saving a close-range effort from Martínez with a little help from the post.
Alert, agile, sharp and composed. After previously denying Dybala, Mike saved his second penalty of the season, once again at San Siro and at a decisive moment in the closing stages. Statistically, he has saved three of the last six penalties he’s faced in Serie A. On this magical night, Maignan also made eight recoveries and played five good long balls. Brilliant stuff, Mike, and thank you!
