Patrick Cutrone was 19 years and seven months old when he scored AC Milan's second in our August 2017 Europa League clash with CS Universitatea Craiova at San Siro, following our away win in the first leg. Last night, the man who bagged the Rossoneri's second, Lorenzo Colombo, was just 18 years and 200 days old.
Like Cutrone, "Lollo" got on the scoresheet in a key European fixture, and scored the Rossoneri's second of the match, although the match against Bodø/Glimt was a straight knockout tie, rather than a second leg, like the clash with Craiova three years ago. The difference between their dates of birth makes a difference because, as Opta has confirmed, Lorenzo Colombo is the first player born after 2000 to have scored a competitive goal for AC Milan.
Colombo follows in the footsteps of Matri and Borriello in the veritable stream of promising young forwards being produced by the Rossoneri academy since 2000. Not only do these players have bags of potential, but they've also had strong values, determination and substance instilled into them. Cutrone was a real fan favourite during his time with AC Milan, and Colombo seems to be winning over the Rossoneri fans as well. Before scoring against Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League, Lollo had already scored a great goal in our friendly against Monza, with a certain Gabriel Paletta among the opposition defenders.
"A night I'll never forget... I know how hard I had to work to get here," remarked Lorenzo after the game. The Rossoneri front man always showed real tenacity when recovering from the various injuries he suffered last season with the Primavera.
