BOLOGNA AND FIORENTINA: ROSSONERI RESILIENCE

Even during a tough spell, the Rossoneri remained in the race for Champions League football

AC MILAN V BOLOGNA: CRISIS AVERTED

The period between the Rossoneri’s defeat to the Granata to that of our fixture against Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna on Monday 6 May (40 years after the 1979 Scudetto secured against Bologna) was certainly dramatic. Following the discussion between Coach and Club in Turin, as well as a meeting with the squad at Milanello, Bakayoko was then late for training and duly punished. However, right from the off against Bologna, you could see that the team were eager to get back on track. Playing with clarity and speed, Suso put the Rossoneri ahead before Borinidoubled the hosts’ lead after the interval. Destro pulled one back for the Rossoblu to make it 2-1, although Milan did well to hang on to all three points unlike in prior fixtures against Parma and Udinese.

FIORENTINA V AC MILAN: MISSION COMPLETE

The build-up to our trip to Fiorentina was once again dominated by headlines linked to Bakayoko, with press speculation scrutinising whether or not the midfielder would start at the Stadio Franchi. However, during his pre-match press conference, Rino Gattuso confirmed that the situation had been dealt with and there was no friction between Coach and player. With the Viola struggling in the league and after Atalanta’s victory over Genoa, Gattuso opted for a change to his starting line-up. Abate started at right-back, while Borini joined a three-man attack in place of Paquetà who was suspended. Calhanoglu scored the game’s crucial goal in the 36th minute, which followed consistent attacking and fluid play. The Viola attempted to claw their way back into the game, although an impressive Donnarumma ensured all three points for the Rossoneri.
