FROSINONE AND SPAL: BITTER WINS

Wins against SPAL and Frosinone weren't enought to qualify for the Champions League

AC MILAN-FROSINONE: KEEPING IT ALIVE

The team returned to San Siro in the new shirt for the 2019-20 season for the final match in front of a home crowd. First of all, Rino Gattuso thanked the 60,000 strong crowd for their support before sticking with the same team from the match in Florence. Gigio was in goal behind a defence of Abate, Musacchio, Romagnoli and Rodriguez. Kessie, Bakayoko and Calhanoglu were in midfield with a front three of Suso, Piatek and Borini. Frosinone were already relegated but still played a solid and determined game while AC Milan had to win to keep the pressure on Atalanta ahead of their match in the evening away at Juventus. After surviving an early scare with Donnarumma's penalty save from Ciano, the Rossoneri got back on track and were able to win. Piatek was back among the goals and Suso made the difference once again late in the season with a sublime free kick

SPAL-AC MILAN: NO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL

In the week before the final match of the season, Milan were a point behind both Inter and Atalanta. In Milanello, there were rumours of issues at Inter but the instructions were clear; let’s only worry about ourselves because it will be tough in Ferrara. Semplici's team were still aiming to finish tenth and it was definitely not going to be a foregone conclusion for Milan away on the final day. After working hard and showing caution in the week, the Rossoneri started well at the Stadio Mazza against SPAL. First Calhanoglu and then Kessie scored to give the impression that a win was on it its way. Then, good and bad news came from Reggio Emilia and San Siro. In the end, Milan beat SPAL but the final of minutes of the Inter game meant that the Rossoneri finished the season in fifth place
