Milan Futuro's 2026/27 season got off to a disappointing start as they were knocked out of the first round of the Coppa Italia Serie D by Sant'Angelo, who now progress to the Round of 32. At the Felice Chinetti in Solbiate Arno, the Rossoneri recovered from an early setback through Castiello to go into half-time level, but were unable to make the most of the chances they created after the break. Two late goals from the opposition, one from a free-kick just outside the box and the other on the counter-attack, ultimately settled the tie.
There was one particularly positive moment in the second half, as Bonomi returned to the pitch after a year out with a knee injury. Milan Futuro must now quickly turn their attention to what lies ahead. In just five days, they will travel to England to face Everton at Goodison Park in their opening game of the Premier League International Cup U21. Then, on Sunday 6 September, they will begin their league campaign in Group B of Serie D: Caldiero Terme, who finished 11th last season, will visit the Chinetti.

MATCH REPORT
The visitors started brightly and came close to taking the lead as early as the second minute, when new signing Cominetti took advantage of some early uncertainty in the Rossoneri defence to strike the post with his left foot. Five minutes later, Bernardini found space in the box and headed Sant'Angelo into the lead in the seventh minute. Milan Futuro responded well, and Cappelletti's cross-shot in the 13th minute forced Leoni into action. The equaliser arrived five minutes later: Perera picked out Castiello, who produced a striker's finish, turning home with his left foot to make it 1-1. The Rossoneri pushed for a second before the break. In the 40th minute, Castiello was denied by the goalkeeper after Ossola slipped a pass through to him, while two minutes later Vos fired wide after a solo run. Perera then came close in added time, heading just past the post.
Milan Futuro created the first chance after the restart, with Ossola firing wide from the edge of the box. Cappelletti went close again in the 67th minute, forcing Leoni into an excellent diving save with a powerful effort from distance. Substitute Balentien also tried his luck in the 75th minute, but could only fire wide from a tight angle. The game turned in Sant'Angelo's favour in the closing stages. Substitute Toldo stepped up to take a free-kick from just outside the box and found the net to restore the visitors' lead. Milan Futuro pushed forward in search of a late equaliser, leaving space at the back, and Sant'Angelo took full advantage on the counter: Maltoni finished the move to seal a 3-1 victory.
POST-MATCH STATEMENT
"We're certainly not happy," said head coach Sergio Navarro after the game. "Nobody likes losing, but I believe this game will teach us a lot. We played well at several points, but we have to keep improving. Today was a tough experience, but that's OK. Our opponents showed us that there are certain ideas we still need to develop and understand better, and that will help us going forward."
