Koni De Winter was born in Antwerp on 12 June 2002 and developed as a player in the youth ranks of Lierse and Zulte Waregem, growing into a physically powerful defender who is also comfortable on the ball and in aerial play. At 16, he moved to Italy, joining Juventus' youth academy and becoming the first Belgian player in the club's history. He stood out in the youth teams and earned a few first-team call-ups: Massimiliano Allegri gave him his debut in the 2021/22 Champions League against Chelsea and Malmö, while he also gained experience in Serie C with Juventus Next Gen.
In July 2022, he transferred to Empoli on loan, where he made his Serie A debut and proved to be a reliable player, making 14 appearances. The following summer, he had a new challenge with the newly promoted Genoa in Serie A. With the Grifone, he became a key player, making 57 appearances and scoring three goals over two seasons, earning a call-up to the Belgian national team and catching the eye of AC Milan, who signed him in August 2025.
