THE ROSSONERE'S SEASON ENDS IN DEFEAT

Boureille's goal isn't enough as Juventus run out 2-1 winners at Vismara

The Rossonere’s 2021/22 Women’s Serie A season ended in defeat today: Juventus, the Italian champions, emerged 2-1 victors from a balanced affair where the tempo dropped in the second half, with the heat contributing to this. Given how many chances they created - especially in the first half - AC Milan deserved more from the game. However, our girls deserve credit for the attitude they displayed in trying to score, which they eventually did through Boureille.

The curtain has fallen, and AC Milan have finished in third place after a good run in the second half of the campaign (ten games without defeat before today) and with the most clean sheets in the league (twelve). Next season will see ten teams compete in Serie A - Hellas Verona, Lazio and Napoli have been relegated and will be replaced by either Brescia or Coma - and a new playoff and playout system introduced. The league will also be turning professional.

MATCH REPORT
The Rossonere started on the front foot: after 40 seconds, Aprile was forced to rush off her line to stop Thomas from shooting, while Lindsey then couldn’t quite connect with Bergamaschi’s cross with twelve minutes on the clock. AC Milan had another chance as Adami sent her 28th-minute effort narrowly off target from the edge of the box, but it was Juventus who took the lead on the half-hour mark: Zamanian’s left-footed strike proved too powerful for Giuliani, who, despite getting a touch to the ball, was unable to keep it out. Before half-time, the Rossonere came close to equalising through a header from Piemonte.

At the start of the second half, the visitors doubled their advantage: Stašková failed to get the ball under control, but Pedersen latched onto it and fired home. As the match wore on, the two teams started to struggle with the heat at Vismara, although both Piemonte and Bergamaschi had opportunities in the 68th minute. The Rossonere scored a consolation goal in added time: Thrige whipped in a great cross for Boureille, whose diving header ended in the net. It was her second goal in two matches, but it didn’t save Coach Ganz’s girls from defeat. Full-time.
