COMO 1907 DEFEAT ROSSONERE IN LEAGUE OPENER

On matchday one of the 2026/27 Serie A Women season, Como 1907 secured a 4-1 home victory over AC Milan at the Centro Sportivo Lambrone in Erba. The scoreline was harsh on Coach Bakker's Rossonere, who showed that they could pose a threat in the second half, as they pulled a goal back through captain Grimshaw. However, they were undone by Haavi's early brace and further goals from Wiankowska and Wullaert, both of which came in stoppage time as the visitors pushed forward in search of an equalizer.
The performance produced in the second half, together with the determination shown in their efforts to restore parity, provides the Rossonere with a platform to build on as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures. The season is only just beginning, and on the opening matchday of a league campaign there is still time to fine-tune the team's mechanisms and lay the foundations for a convincing season. MATCH REPORT
From kick-off, AC Milan showed their aggression with a high press and created their first chance as early as the second minute, with Kanutte shooting left-footed and forcing Durante into action. Como looked to control possession and, after attempts from Moraca and Giacinti, took a two-goal lead through Haavi in the 13th and 26th minutes. She first made the most of Wullaert's clever pass before producing a powerful finish from a corner routine. AC Milan's twice came close in response, with Kanutte in the 29th minute and Kamczyk in the 38th both being denied by Durante. Giacinti and Moraca were unable to make the most of their efforts at the other end, while Kyvåg also tried her luck in stoppage time, but her effort flew over the bar.
The tempo did not drop after the break, with both sides continuing to play at pace. The Rossonere looked to launch their comeback just two minutes into the second half through Kyvåg, but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper. In the 59th minute, Kanutte and Kyvåg again threatened Como: the former Rossonere’s turn and shot went narrowly wide, while the latter’s left-footed effort sailed over the bar. Coach Bakker's substitutions added a fresh attacking impetus, and it was a solo run from substitute Renzotti that set up Grimshaw to make it 2-1 with a tap-in in the 69th minute. Renzotti came close to leveling the contest in the 78th minute with a cross-shot that Sesay narrowly failed to reach, while Grimshaw was unable to repeat her earlier heroics shortly afterwards, heading wide while twisting in the air. After coming within a whisker of an equalizer late on through Kamczyk, Como took advantage of AC Milan’s attacking commitment in stoppage time to extend their lead twice, sealing a 4-1 victory first through Wiankowska and then Wullaert.

Coach Bakker's comments after the match: "We are disappointed. This was not how we wanted to start our league campaign. We did not approach the match in the way we wanted, whereas in the second half there was much more fighting spirit. We pressed and created a lot, and we knew we could score. We must always carry this fighting spirit with us, from the start of the match and against any opponent. We know we can do it."
